Bloomsburg's Falls to Nebraska in Wrestling
LINCOLN, NE - The Bloomsburg University wrestling team opened the 2006 portion of its season with a 30-12 loss to the University of Nebraska Monday night in Lincoln, NE.
The Huskies jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match after Brad Forbes (Downingtown/Strath Haven) won a 4-3 decision at 141 pounds. Forbes used a take down and near-fall two for his four points, then held on for the win.
The Cornhuskers then grabbed control of the match winning the next five bouts to go in front 24-3. At 149 pounds George Hickman lost by technical fall to Ryan Davis; Aric Furhman (Spring Grove/Delone Catholic) lost by fall at 157 pounds; Frank Beasley (Odin, IL/Centralia) dropped a 16-5 major decision to Marc Harwood at 165; Andrew Jordan (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) lost by fall to sixth-ranked Jacob Klein at 174 and Brandon Browne pulled out a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Nate Shirk (Middleburg/Middleburg) at 184 pounds.
Bloomsburg's Jesse Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin) got the Huskies back into the win column winning by fall over Casey Roberts in a time of 6:10. Hasseman was leading the match 3-0 in the third period when he got the pin.
At heavyweight, Jon May beat Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown), 6-4, to put Nebraska in front 27-9. Then at 125, Mike Sees (Northumberland/Northumberland) won by decision over Paul Donahoe 13-7, leading from start to finish, before Bloomsburg's Ricky Donald (Millville/Bloomsburg) lost to Patrick Aleksanyan by an 8-3 score to end the match.
The Huskies fall to 5-3 with the loss and will return to action Friday, Jan 6th taking on Drexel University at North Penn High School.
